Applications to enrol in the Postgraduate Specialist Teaching (Gifted and Talented) for students starting in 2017 are now OPEN. Please encourage your interested staff to do this as soon as possible so that their applications can be assessed and an offer made.

The closing date for applications is 10 December 2016 for a Semester 1 start.All documentation must be received by this date.

With the enrolment you will need to provide verified hard copies of your passport, academic transcripts for your degree and professional qualification, current teacher practicing certificate or professional registration plus a current CV emphasising your strengths in the area of your endorsement.

NB: With the introduction of the new “Vulnerable Children’s Act” mandatory police checks for those without a current practicing certificate are taking 6- 8 weeks.

Note: Only list the papers being completed in 2017. Two papers (60 credits) is half a full time study load. Those working full time should consider doing one paper (30 credits) each year. The programme has a maximum timeframe of four years.

What is P4C?
The Philosophy for Children (P4C) programme is often described as a thinking skills programme or a course in critical and creative thinking. While it is true that philosophy for children does improve students’ critical and creative thinking skills, calling it a “thinking skills” programme does not do it justice. It does much more as well.  Philosophy for children builds on the students’ own wonder and curiosity about ideas that are vitally important to them. The subject matter of Philosophy for Children is those common, central and contestable concepts that underpin both our experience of human life and all academic disciplines.                                                                  www.p4c.org.nz
